CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The PGO Council will be conducting an election for two (2) members to serve a three-year term on the PGO Council. The nomination period will be from March 31 to May 3, 2021. Candidates apply by completing a nomination form and having 5 PGO registrants (P.Geo.’s) endorse the nomination. The on-line voting is open from May 12 to June 9. All candidates must submit a brief bio and statement that is included in a package to all eligible voting regsitrants of PGO.

To be nominated, each candidate must submit:
1. Their signed letter of consent to be added to the slate of nominees and to serve on Council if elected;
2. A completed Council application form; and,
3. Their completed and signed Nomination Form showing the support of at least 5 PGO registrants in good standing. A listing of registrants-in-good-standing is available in PGO’s public register.

The PGO Council is a 20-member board of directors that was created and defined by the Professional Geoscientists Act, 2000. The Council governs the activities of the PGO, by planning and setting directions and expectations for the regulatory body, monitoring progress, lending their advisory expertise to the issues of the day, and supporting the role of the PGO as the professional regulator for geoscientists in Ontario.

  • Vice-President (serving as VP 2021-22, President 2022-23, Past President 2023-24) - Candidates must have at least one year of experience on Council.
  • one (1) Councillor-at-Large

OPEN as of 2021: THREE-YEAR TERM COUNCIL POSITION BY APPOINTMENT

PGO Council also have the following positions available in 2021 for three-year term by appointment as per By-law 1:

  • one (1) non-member appointee appointed in accordance with By-law 1 Section 2.11 (b)

Here are the pertinent facts:

  • 4-5 Council meetings per year, held in Toronto – usually on Thursdays starting at 9 am.  Currently, due to COVID, meetings are held virftually.
  • Meetings usually last about 5 hours
  • Council members can participate in meetings online if necessary
  • Travel expenses for meetings are reimbursed by PGO
  • Term is 3 years starting in June 2021
  • Orientation and governance training are provided
  • Time spent at Council meetings can be counted as Continuous Professional Development (CPD) hours

Over the history of the PGO, many of our registrants have volunteered to serve on Council and their experiences were overwhelmingly positive. We ask that you volunteer some of your time and talent and join your colleagues in serving the public interest through PGO.
