Professional Geoscientists Ontario Appoints Andrea Waldie, P.Geo., FGC as Interim CEO
Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) is pleased to announce that Andrea Waldie, P.Geo., FGC, will be acting as Interim CEO, effective March 25, 2025. Ms. Waldie reports to the Council and will be responsible for managing all aspects of PGO’s operations during this period of transition.
Andrea comes to PGO with a wealth of regulatory and professional geoscience experience, having recently retired as CEO of Geoscientists Canada (2018 – 2024), the national umbrella organization of the professional geoscience practice regulators in Canada and having served as the Executive Director and Registrar of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario from 2007 through 2012. She was the volunteer business manager of the APGO Education Foundation from 2008 through 2021, joining the Board in 2022. She is the treasurer of the Global Geoscience Professionalism Group, an international collaborative of geoscience professional organisations dedicated to professionalism in geoscience, and is a director on the International Geological Congress (IGC 2028) Foundation Board. She enjoys speaking and collaborating nationally and internationally on matters that support excellence in geoscience professionalism. Prior to her career in geoscience professionalism and regulation, Andrea spent over 20 years in the mineral exploration industry. She was awarded the PGO Award of Merit (2023), is a registered professional geoscientist in Ontario, and is a Fellow of Geoscientists Canada.
“I am honoured to work with the Council, staff, and volunteers of PGO during this time of transition; applying my knowledge and skills to support PGO, public protection, and geoscience professionals”, said Waldie.
Speaking of the appointment and the PGO’s transition Robert Hearst, P.Geo., President of PGO, stated “Council is excited to have Andrea taking on this important role, providing support and guidance to the organisation over the next several months, while the search for PGO’s next visionary CEO leader takes place.”
