PGO Launches Guidance Document on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

PGO is pleased to announce the release of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Professional Practice Guidelines. This guidance was created to assist professional geoscientists and certificate of authorization holders in deepening their understanding of the EDI principles and how to integrate them into the workplace to foster an active culture of inclusion and take meaningful steps toward Truth and Reconciliation.

“The passing of the EDI guideline by PGO Council is a tremendous step towards a geoscience profession where everyone is welcome at the table to participate in a meaningful way to advance our profession for the benefit of society,” said Mary-Anne Hildebrandt, P.Geo., FGC, Council President. “On behalf of Council, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly over the last two years to reach this milestone.”

As a regulated profession, PGO and professional geoscientists play an important role in ensuring that EDI principles are incorporated into their practice to ensure that the public interest is protected and upheld. Professionalism calls for each of us to treat individuals with respect and dignity regardless of characteristics, status, or qualities, as enshrined in the Ontario Human Rights Code.

PGO’s public protection mandate is sustained and advanced through the diverse backgrounds and talents of its volunteers and staff. As an organization, we are committed to fostering an environment that celebrates diversity and practices inclusion. This document is one among a number of concrete steps we are taking to ensure that EDI principles are incorporated into every aspect of our operations and regulatory practices.
