Message from APGO Council Representative in Southeastern Ontario, Mark Priddle, P.Geo.
Hello Fellow APGO Members in Southeastern Ontario:
Wishing you all the best for 2014, despite some potential challenges in our
profession. I would like to bring to your attention a couple of items for your
consideration in the next few months.
Firstly, it has been my pleasure to serve as the Southeastern Regional Councillor of the APGO for the past two terms. My term
expires in June of 2014 and I will not (cannot) run again. It has been a
rewarding time, both professionally and personally, to sit on APGO’s Council.
During the past 5+ years there have been a number of important happenings
within the APGO and in our profession. During this time, the APGO has dealt
with Regulation changes, seen a long-time CEO depart and hired a new one,
weathered some legal challenges, made inroads at Queen’s Park and pushed for inter-provincial
mobility for Professional Geoscientists. As a Council Member I have been able
to be involved directly in these issues. In 2010, the 10th Anniversary of the
‘Professional Geoscientists’ Act’ was celebrated and we remain a young, but
growing and vibrant professional body.
This being said, APGO nominations will be open this winter and the position of
Southeastern Regional Councillor will be up for
grabs. I would encourage you to speak to myself (or other present
or former Councillors) if you are considering running for this position. Based on my personal
experience I know that the successful candidate will enjoy this challenging but
rewarding position and grow as a Professional. I am therefore looking forward
to seeing several nominations in 2014!
Secondly, this spring we will again be hosting a Regional Gathering (mid-April)
for P.Geo.’s, students and others. Last year’s event
was extremely worthwhile for those in attendance and we are looking forward to
another gathering. I will keep you posted.
Regards,
Mark Priddle, P.Geo.
