Session C: Independent Professional Judgement in the Public Interest

Greg Hodges
Greg Hodges
Semi-Retired Geophysicist
Greg Hodges is a semi-retired geophysicist. Since 1980 his career has included most types of mineral exploration geophysics, and many kinds of engineering geophysics; mostly, but not exclusively, electromagnetic methods.  He was a professional geophysicist for more than 20 years before there was such a title,  and was a P.Geo for another 20.  He's worked as a ground geophysical contractor, in junior and major mining companies, and (for the last 32 years) for airborne geophysical survey companies in R&D and development of applications for all kinds of airborne methods.

Greg’s interest in Bogus Geophysics began with introduction to the Ore Affinity System in the '80s, and he has been collecting and analyzing dubious geophysics ever since (he has more than 80 in his database). He has authored multiple papers and conference presentations that try to help non-experts know when to question the promises of pseudo-geophysical methods.
David Wilson
David Wilson
Research Assistant Professor, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Waterloo

David Wilson is Research Assistant Professor, Earth and Environmental Sciences at University of Waterloo.  David has expertise in contaminant hydrogeology and geochemical numerical modelling. David has been involved in extensive field investigations at abandoned and active mines in Canada for more than 10 years and has significant experience with using reactive transport models to investigate geochemical and physical processes in mine wastes.

Kristin is a retired executive and hydrogeologist who made an impact over her 30-year career by being an inclusive leader who listens. Mentoring mid-career professionals is one of the ways Kristin is spending her volunteer time during retirement, motivated by mentoring that she received and wanting to give back.  Kristin has served as a formal mentor for the PGO, the Prosperity Project, and the Women’s Transportation Symposium (WTS).  She was part of the PGO subcommittee that developed and implemented the new virtual mentoring program.

Kristin started her career in Canada working for Duke Energy in Toronto as leader of their in-house environmental services division.  She later joined a private environmental consulting firm, becoming one of the seven principal shareholders and the first woman on the senior management team.  She was part of the team negotiating the sale of the firm to SNC-Lavalin (now AtkinsRealis) and led integration of the operation.  Kristin finished her career at SNC-Lavalin as Senior Vice President of Engineering, being the first woman to lead the engineering operations in Ontario.

Kristin has volunteered for many years with PGO in the roles of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, President, and Past President, serving on committees including Finance, Governance, Enforcement & Compliance as well as the Mentoring subcommittee.  Kristin served 10 years as a Director on the Board of the APGO Education Foundation.  Today, Kristin is Vice President of the Niagara Bruce Trail Club and leads GeoHikes on the Bruce Trail.  She also works part time at her favorite winery, Malivoire, leading vineyard tours highlighting the importance of geology and terroir on wine.
