References and CBA Validators
References – For GIT Applications
An applicant for Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT) registration is required to provide at minimum one character reference. This referee must:
| • • |
Know the applicant well for a minimum of 3 months. Be able to attest to the character of the applicant. |
To submit additional references, please download the Reference Form from the Forms and Guidelines section of our website.
CBA Validators – For Practising, Limited, and select Temporary Applications
An applicant for Practising, Limited and select Temporary registration is required to provide four (4) validators via the CBA system.
| • • • |
The first validator must be a practising professional geoscientist (P.Geo.) registered with a geoscience regulatory body in Canada, or an equivalent foreign organisation. The second validator must be either a professional geoscientist (P.Geo.) registered in Canada, or equivalent foreign organisation, or a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Canada, or equivalent foreign organisation. The third and fourth validators can be work colleagues or clients who know the applicant’s work experience well. |
Applicants are expected to assign competencies across multiple validators in the CBA where possible. At a minimum, one Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) must be assigned to validate a portion of the applicant’s competencies.
Assigning all or a majority of competencies to a single validator is discouraged and may result in application delays.
CBA Validators must:
| • • |
Know the applicant well for a minimum of 3 months. Be able to attest to the character of the applicant in the validator feedback section. |
Important for All Application Types:
Immediate family members (e.g. Mother, Father, Spouse, Sibling, Aunt, Uncle) cannot act as Referees or Validators.
